The Moderator's diary
During their year in office, the Moderator visits four Church of Scotland Presbyteries, travels to partner churches overseas, represents the Church of Scotland on historic and national occasions, supports the work of Councils, Committees, congregations and organisations, and meets with interfaith and ecumenical bodies.
Below are details of the engagements in the modertorial diary this month.
The Moderator will preach at Ayr Newton Wallacetown, his first congregation.
The Moderator will meet with Maureen Sier, Director of Interfaith Scotland.
The Moderator will attend the annual Church Leaders meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, at the Scottish Parliament. Topics for discussion will include: the Scottish Government’s relationship with Christian churches in Scotland, Brexit and the various effects it is having on local communities, and Climate Change.
In the evening, Mr Sinclair will attend a Dinner hosted by the ‘Grasping the Nettle’ Steering Group, a movement formed by church leaders in Scotland to promote dialogue within the church and society at large about belief in God, especially in relation to science.
The Moderator and his wife, Mrs Ruth Sinclair, will attend a Reception to view Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Parade, Trooping the Colour, in London.
The Moderator will lead a prayer at an event in Trafalgar Square marking the culmination of Thy Kingdom Come 2019, an annual prayer campaign in which Christians are invited to pray for their friends and family to know Jesus Christ.
The Moderator will meet with a Group from the United Church of Zambia who are visiting Scotland through the Priority Areas Together For a Change Programme, in partnership with the World Mission Council.
The Moderator will preach at Liberton Northfield’s 150th anniversary service.
The Moderator and his wife will attend the Opening Evening of the DIAKONIA Region Africa Europe Conference (DRAE) in Musselburgh. DRAE is one of the world’s largest ecumenical working groups.
The Moderator and his wife will attend the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.
In the evening, Mr Sinclair will preach and rededicate the Sanctuary of Alloa: St Mungo’s.
The Moderator will preach at Rutherglen: Stonelaw, the congregation he attended while working for Scripture Union.
The Moderator will lead Pause for Reflection at the City of Edinburgh Council meeting in the City Chambers.
The Moderator will be the Reviewing Officer at the Royal 21 Gun Salute to mark the arrival of Her Majesty the Queen in Edinburgh for Holyrood Week.
The Moderator will attend an event to mark the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Scottish Parliament.
