John Thomson

John was born in Falkirk in 1956 and was educated at Falkirk High School. On leaving school in 1973 he joined the Royal Bank of Scotland and moved to TSB Scotland in 1979 where he served for 12 years latterly as Assistant Branch Manager. In February 1992 he was appointed as an Assistant Secretary in the Board of National Mission and in June 2005 as a Ministries Support Officer in the Ministries Council. His present duties include being Secretary of the Presbytery Planning Task Group, Interim Ministries Task Group, Committee on Chaplains to HM Forces and the Chaplaincies Forum. He has been a Member Nominated Trustee since 2014 and since 2015 a member of the Employee Council Committee in the Church Offices.

Married to Moira, they are members of Zetland Parish Church in Grangemouth where John has been an Elder since 2011. They have two grown up daughters now both married and two grandsons.

John has been a member of the Boys’ Brigade in Falkirk & District on and off since 1967 and presently Treasurer of the local Battalion. In his younger days he was a keen sportsman, especially football, and remains an ardent supporter of Falkirk Football Club. He now tries to keeps fit with regular walking, time with family and friends and occasional trips to whisky distilleries.
