Valuable role

Office Bearers carry out vital roles within congregations across Scotland that ensure kirks are able to function.

Whether it’s a treasurer, session clerk, clerk to the board or safeguarding officer to name a few, easily accessible info has now been gathered for one clear, concise and entertaining section of the Kirk’s website.

Rev Jamie Milliken, vice convenor of the Mission and Discipleship Council, said:

“Office Bearers online is a valuable resource for the church, helping us to understand who we are, the way we are and where we can find information to help us to more effectively lead and manage our churches.

"It is a welcome one stop shop giving access to other areas of the Church of Scotland’s website, guiding our office-bearers through the ever increasing complexity of good governance in the church today.”

One user of the new resource is session clerk of Strathbrock Parish Church in West Lothian Lynne McEwen.

She said: “This is a very useful resource for experienced office bearers, new office bearers and people thinking about becoming an office bearer.

“It has the most up-to-date information there is on all the important roles in a church. It’s all available in a clear and easy to use way. I’d highly recommend people use it.”
