Church invites applications for volunteer Charity Trustee
Published on 13 June, 2017
The Church of Scotland is seeking a Charity Trustee to serve on the Council of Assembly from August 2017 to May 2019. This is an opportunity for a church elder, minister or deacon to play a leading role in helping the Church achieve its vision and mission.
The Council of Assembly is made up of 18 members: Council Conveners and 12 direct General Assembly appointees.
Sally Bonnar, Convener of the Council of Assembly, would encourage people from a wide range of backgrounds to apply.
“The successful applicant will be joining an enthusiastic and committed group of people who are keen to see the Church flourish in the 21st century,” she said.
“Whatever your skills are, you are certain to find a niche in the varied work of the Council, and you will be warmly welcomed by the other members.”
The Council is responsible for monitoring, evaluating and co-ordinating the work of the Unincorporated Councils and Committees of the Church through receiving regular reports, preparing the Church's annual budget and determining central staffing and resourcing requirements.
Trustee members of the Council of Assembly are expected to:
- possess an understanding of the life and culture of the Church of Scotland; and
- be committed to developing and implementing the vision and mission of the General Assembly; and
- possess an understanding of Scotland's contemporary culture
Trustees are not paid but expenses will be covered. Women and young people are currently under-represented on the Council and are particularly encouraged to apply. Closing date for applications is 30 June 2017.
If you are invited to interview, you will need a reference from your Minister, Session Clerk or Presbytery Clerk.
