Photo-sharing campaign launched in lead-up to Assembly
Published on 13 April, 2017
Congregations across Scotland and beyond can show their support for this year’s General Assembly by taking part in a photo-sharing campaign being launched today.
The ‘Word of Life’ campaign celebrates this chosen theme for the annual gathering of the Kirk in Edinburgh on 20 May by urging members to gather a group of people to each hold up a specially designed letter spelling out the phrase, go to a nice place in their community, take a photo and share on social media using the hashtag #WordOfLife.
Moderator Designate, Rev Dr Derek Browning, who will choose one significant word as a theme for each of his days at the Assembly, said: “Word of Life’ is the broad theme of the 2017 General Assembly and the Heart and Soul Festival, being held on May 21.
“Words are links that hook meaning together giving us understanding. Words are important to faith, asking questions and giving hope.
"For Christians Jesus is the ultimate word of life. What is that important ‘word’ for you? Join in our theme to share these different words. Help us enrich our vocabulary of faith.”
The words Dr Browning will use are ‘hope’, ‘hospitality’, ‘water’, ‘light’, ‘forgiveness’ and ‘love’.
People can bring their ‘Word of Life’ cut-outs to the Heart and Soul Festival to take photos and share online.
The festival, with live music, arts, exhibitions and displays from a large number of groups and organisations, is the largest Christian exhibition in the country which attracts around 5,000 people.
