A Chaplain for Our Ports

Sailors’ Society is an international Christian charity working in ports across the world.

Chaplain talking to sailors

Together with the support of the Scottish Guild, we aim to transform lives through bringing hope and comfort to seafarers arriving at our ports.

Our chaplains help seafarers and their families, from all faiths and none, with welfare and practical support.

We visit ships in ports and talk with seafarers away from home for up to a year at a time; we help them get in touch with loved ones and access medical treatment; we liaise with frightened families when seafarers are kidnapped by terrorists or imprisoned, mostly through no fault of their own; we build homes and schools, and we provide grants to bring hope and security to seafaring communities.

Sailors’ Society chaplains are the lifeblood of the charity and we are very thankful to the Church of Scotland Guild for partnering with us in mission to support the work of our chaplains in Scotland.

Last year, our Scottish chaplains and volunteers reached out to more than 16,000 seafarers from all over the world. Our chaplains are passionate about making seafarers feel at home whilst in Scotland, always offering a warm welcome and a gentle listening ear.
