Advent Day 12: Congregation take Christmas Day service to a care home

A Renfrewshire church is holding its Christmas Day service in a local care home.

It will be the first time that members of Inchinnan Parish Church have taken festivities beyond their own walls.

Sporting a Christmas jumper and party hat, Rev Ann Knox is a regular visitor to LittleInch Care Home which is close to her church.

Minister, Rev Ann Knox, said her flock were looking forward to "sharing the joy" of Christmas with residents at LittleInch Care Home.

She said traditional carols including Still the night, O come all ye Faithful, Away in a manger, Joy to the world will be sung using a Hymnalplus400 machine bought with money left to the church.

Mrs Knox said: "I conduct a worship service once a month in the home and I wondered if some of the residents would have a visitor on the day as some relatives live further away and others have no relatives.

"It would help the carers as it gives them a bit of a break in a busy day - although they will be encouraged to join in.

"I felt it was a good way of taking the church out of the building and into the community, sharing the joy of Christmas with those who now cannot attend church services and with those who perhaps never did."

Karen Armstrong, manager of LittleInch Care Home, said she is "delighted" that the service is taking place on Christmas Day at 11.30am

"We are very pleased that residents are still part of the church and will be able to live out their faith in this way on Christmas Day," she added.

"It is very much welcomed."

A Christmas Eve family service is being held at Inchinnan Parish Church at 6.30pm followed by a Watchnight service at 11.30pm.
