A Glasgow church and a community group have been recognised in the Scottish Parliament for their "tireless and inspirational" work to bring people together and have a positive impact on their lives.
Cross-party MSPs have warmly congratulated Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church and the Friends of Naseby Park on their "outstanding efforts to foster community spirit and collaboration".
A motion lodged by Glasgow Labour MSP Pauline McNeill "celebrates the success" of the recent Community Carol Singing event, which raised £225 for Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) to support its vital work.
It acknowledges the series of successful community events held throughout 2024 as a testament to the "power of cooperation" and praises what it sees as the tireless work of dedicated volunteers who are transforming the park, which is adjacent to the church.
In sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, the Church of Scotland is committed to celebrating the diversity of all God's people and strengthening the culture of welcome.
The Kirk's vision for this world and our society is ‘that all may have life and have it in fullness" (John 10:10).
The Scottish Parliament recognition is a fitting tribute to Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church which has nearly 450 members and aims to make the space and its activities as welcoming and inclusive as possible to everyone, "whether of lifelong faith, of no set belief or somewhere in-between".
Parish minister Rev George Mackay said: "In many ways, Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church thrives due to its close links with the local communities.
"Our cooperation with the Friends of Naseby Park brings rewards for us both, each publicising and supporting the other's events and sharing our material resources.
"Some recent events were a family quiz night and community carol singing raising £225 for CHAS.
"The cherry blossom fair in Naseby Park is held in the spring when the trees are at their finest.
"In another part of the parish, the community benefits from events at the Hyndland Community Hall from country dancing, the lunch club, the university of the third age, (to educate and stimulate retired people), to several activities for children.
"Church members are at the heart of all these activities, thriving on the social connections made with like-minded individuals and knowing that their contribution is promoting their local church in its local communities."
Outstanding contribution
Scottish Labour Councillor Eunis Jassemi, who represents Victoria Park Ward on Glasgow City Council, is a strong supporter of the work of the church and community group.
He said: "Both Pauline and I are delighted to see the tireless work of Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church and the Friends of Naseby Park being recognised in the Scottish Parliament.
"Their dedication to improving the lives of local residents, creating spaces for connection, and fostering a sense of belonging is truly inspiring.
‘'This motion is a fitting recognition of their outstanding contribution, and it's wonderful to see their efforts being celebrated in this way."
