Elema is the heart of her family and her home is a welcoming place. She is also at the centre of her community, campaigning against the practice of early marriage with the help of our partner HUNDEE and offering girls a refuge in times of need.

These Lent reflections, which are based on the lectionary readings for the Sundays in Lent, and include prayers, can be used with small groups or for personal Bible study to prayerfully consider the themes raised in Count Your Blessings in more depth.

In many parts of the world, women are responsible for feeding their family. Elema explains that grinding the grain, fetching water and making food are duties for women in her community. But it’s traditional for the men to eat first and the women to get the leftovers.
