A prayer to mark Holocaust Memorial Day

A prayer from the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Rt Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
How your heart breaks when we hate and hurt each other.
How our actions and inactions haunt our history.
How we continue this destructive, devastating disrespect of our own humanity.
How?
God of love-that-will-not-let-us-go, hold our sorrow-filled hearts in yours as we remember the horror of the Holocaust. God-of-love-that-will-not-let-us-go, help us to hold each other in the same unfettered esteem you hold each of your beloved children. And call us to hold each other to account when we do not count every person as one of ours, as one of yours.
How can we end this violent erasing of our humanity? Call us to face that question with everything we have – as we remember them.
AMEN.
