Church Moderator embarks on visit to Aberdeen

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland will spend a few days in Aberdeen this weekend (Friday 11 - Sunday 13 February) meeting with Kirk members and marking the annual Founders' Day at the University of Aberdeen.
On Friday evening Lord Wallace will preach in person at High Hilton Church at a Presbytery service where he will also hand out long-service awards to those who have dedicated years of their time to supporting the Church.
The next day the Presbytery will hold a small lunch for him.
Lord Wallace said: "I am very much looking forward to meeting both Presbytery and university members during my time in Aberdeen this weekend.
"This is a time of real challenge for all in the Church, and I shall be interested to learn how members of the Aberdeen and Shetland Presbytery are facing up to change, ever mindful of the need to keep a focus on mission to our local communities.
"The presentation of long-service certificates is always a poignant reminder of the unsung service given over many years by many faithful Kirk members.
"It is also a privilege to preach on the occasion of Aberdeen University's Founder's Day.
"It is a time to reflect on how accumulated learning can be used to advance justice for many of our global neighbours in need."
The annual Founders' Day event, which will take place on Sunday, remembers Bishop Elphinstone who petitioned Pope Alexander VI on behalf of James IV to establish King's College in 1495.
Rev David Hutchison, who will lead the university service, said: "The University of Aberdeen is delighted to welcome Lord Wallace to this year's Founders' Day service at King's College Chapel, where he will preach the sermon.
"Lord Wallace has been in the public eye for many years as a politician.
"It will be wonderful to have him among us with his new hat on, as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland."
