Erskine church’s £9000 award will help it continue community role

A Clydeside church can continue to provide a haven for its local community after securing a £9000 award towards vital repairs.
Erskine Parish Church is among more than 320 organisations across the country sharing in the latest £11 million awards round from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The £9000 award will allow the Renfrewshire church to carry out roof repairs, safeguarding the future of the building and the services it provides to the local community.
These include The Hub Café, which is open three days a week, providing a warm space for the local community, and has recently partnered with charity Listen Well Scotland to host a free, confidential service, Listening Time For You (LT4U). This offers an opportunity to meet a trained listener in a safe setting to explore any concerns or difficulties impacting on mental health and wellbeing.
Erskine Parish Church minister, Rev David Nicolson, said: "We are absolutely delighted as a church to have been awarded this sum from the National Lottery Community Fund.
"It feels like a good match as our church space benefits so many in our community through the work of The Hub Café, our Listening Service partnership, and the many connections that are made and strengthened here every week.
"This funding will go towards ensuring we can continue to work on what has been a challenging ongoing project to keep the building as a haven for our community."
The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland chair, Kate Still, said: "This project, delivered by Erskine Parish Church, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others. It's all thanks to National Lottery players that we can help give charities and community groups throughout Scotland greater certainty during challenging times."
